Over the weekend Colombo celebrated the Hindu Festival of Adi Vel . After extensive Googling, I still haven’t been able to figure out exactly WHAT hat was being celebrated. Perhaps it’s called something else in India or Nepal? But it was colorful and interesting. This festival hasn’t been held on the main streets of Colombo for the past 16 years due to security concerns, so it was quite a milestone. Normally, you might see this–men being suspended from hooks–but fortunately (or perhaps not so fortunately since it would have been interesting?), I missed those guys.
I think these men are Hindu priests accepting offerings from the people on the streets. But I'm not sure.
