On my recent trip to Dambulla, I also climbed Sigiriya for the second, and likely last, time. The price to climb Sigiriya has gone through the roof and is now about $32, compared to the $26 (I think) I payed last fall. This is a common trend in Sri Lanka these days and I hope it doesn’t cause problems for them in the future. While Sigiriya is certainly interesting, I’m not sure it’s worth $32, particularly when you realize it costs less to visit other more amazing sites in other countries for much less (Bali being a prime example).
But I was glad I made it to the top. Even though it was foggy.
By far, the best part of my trip to Sigiriya was the hotel. I stayed at The Teak Forest, which is only about a 10 minute drive to the Lion’s Rock, and you stay in tree houses! What kid hasn’t dreamed of staying in a tree house? But these tree houses are my kind of tree houses, since they come fully equipped with running water and mosquito nets. Kamal, the owner is gracious and welcoming and the food was excellent. I highly recommend it.
